"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms..."(Ephesians 2:6 NIV)
Right now, you are seated with Christ in heavenly places. Wow! Let that sink in. God has positioned you in the spirit realm with Christ at this very moment.
I've read this verse before, but overlooked the power of its application. It wasn't until leading a friend through prayer that I witnessed its ability to restore hope. Her circumstances didn't change; she just became more aware of her permanent place of being and its effects on her soul.
Breathe: Sit comfortably and take some slow, deep breaths.
Become aware: Set a timer for a few minutes. Sit quietly, close your eyes, and listen. Keep track of the different sounds you hear.
Shift Focus: Your senses will become attuned to your natural environment. You’ll notice new sounds and some will grow louder as you get quiet.
Because you are a spiritual being, you occupy another space—a heavenly place that trumps the natural. Ask Jesus to now make you more aware of that place.
Ask: Jesus, show me a representation of my heavenly place with You.
(Express appreciation for whatever He brings to mind.)
Ask: Jesus, help me experience this heavenly place more deeply. How does it sound? Feel? Smell? Taste? (Take your time to experience "being there")
Ask: Jesus, where are You in this place? How do you want me to recognize your presence?
Ask: Why did You choose this picture of the heavenly realm for me? What does it mean specifically for me? What do you want me to gain by seeing it this way?
Let the reality of your Heavenly position bring hope and encouragement today to your earthly situation.
