49 Days of Hearing God: Day 43

Be honest now. Have you felt overwhelmed by any of the exercises in hearing God? Did they stir up uncomfortable thoughts and emotions? Did you end up feeling stuck or completely unable to hear God?

You do not want to skip today’s video. We are so grateful for Jay Heck, our friend and leader of Being Sons. Today, Jay shares his experience listening for God’s voice and the hurdles he encountered as the voice of shame started to overshadow and frustrate his attempts to hear the still small voice of the Spirit.

He walks us through his own experience of moving forward. You will be encouraged as he explains how the temporary "breakdown" in hearing God actually propelled him to "breakthrough."

Use today as an opportunity to go deeper and further and move from an isolating monologue with God to a dialogue.

As Jay discovered, hearing God can be an excavation process in which the Holy Spirit brings buried thoughts and beliefs to the surface. God may want you to feel something uncomfortable so He can address it with you and bring healing, freedom, and clarity. His intention with excavating is always to build.

God may bring to mind a certain day in our 49 Day series for you to revisit. Before you do, ask God to simplify it for you and ask Jesus to remind you that He is the safest of Guides.

Join Jay as he prays with you and for you:

"Jesus, am I your child?"

"Jesus, can I trust you to lead me through the deeper conversations with you?"

Remember, God is kind and patient—so be kind and patient with yourself.
