49 Days of Hearing God: Day 31

We started this week looking at the voice of lack. It’s important to know that wherever there is a perceived lack, fear is not far behind.

God speaks directly to fear in Scripture and He speaks to it often. Sometimes there is good reason to fear and His people want to run. In those instances God says run to Him and be strong.

One of my favorite Scriptures on fear is Isaiah 35:4. It is so full of compassion and promise. God is speaking to Israel after they have experienced very real destruction. We can all relate in some way:

"Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you."

Our God is not passive. God sees. God knows our circumstances. God will come with strength, to put it mildly.

Fear is a real feeling common to humankind and feeling afraid is normal. But, the VOICE of fear—that is something entirely different. The voice of fear will nag, belittle, intimidate, disparage and attempt to motivate us. The voice of fear will even shame us for feeling afraid.

Let Jesus be with you when you feel afraid and let Jesus uproot the nagging voice of fear in your life.

Ask: Jesus, what has the voice of fear whispered to me?

Ask: Jesus, what do you have to say? What’s the Truth?

Let Jesus’s words soak in. Revisit them. Next time the voice of fear rears its nagging head, challenge it immediately from your powerful place of connection to Jesus. Tell it to take a hike and remind it that your God will come against it with vengeance.
