49 Days of Hearing God: Day 28

Hearing God can help us heal from the pain of life, but sometimes that healing is delayed because we are unknowingly waiting for something. We might be waiting on a person to change or do something for us. We might be waiting for circumstances to line up a certain way and then we’ll get on with living. Whatever it is, our healing becomes dependent on that happening first.

A woman whose husband had betrayed her multiple times came to ONE for prayer. As you might expect, she was hurt and angry. She’d been that way a while. When I suggested some steps of forgiveness she said she didn’t know if she could forgive him because he’d never really expressed sincere remorse. I felt prompted to ask, "What if he never does? What does your life look like then?"

It was one of those God questions that brought revelation. I watched as it hit her. She had made her healing dependent on her husband and this kept her connected to the betrayal and pain. She realized HER HEALING WOULD NOT COME FROM THE PERSON WHO HURT HER. Forgiving him would benefit her.

How about you? What keeps you from receiving healing and moving forward more whole-heartedly?

Ask: Jesus, what am I waiting on? Who or what do I need to be disconnected from?

Maybe He will show you someone to forgive. Maybe He’ll show you a way of thinking that isn’t serving you well. Either way, hearing Him now can mean the wait for healing is over.
