Is everything that happens to me God's will?
Some version of this question invariably comes up, so let’s connect with Jesus and begin understanding both His heart and His ways with us.
Start by remembering that place where the Holy Spirit speaks to you:
Ask: Jesus, am I God's child? Wait for the "yes" that affirms and shifts you.
Ask: Jesus, do you love me? Take a minute to let Jesus remind you of His love for you.
Ask: Jesus will you ever leave me? Let His "no" come and then listen in that place of the Spirit.
Ask: Jesus, will you bring to mind a time when I experienced something hurtful?
Pay attention to what parts of the memory come up for you.
Ask: Jesus, reveal to me your presence in that memory.
Allow yourself to see the memory in light of God’s presence in it. Pay attention to anything He says or does in that scene, any thoughts or emotions you sense from Him.
Ask: Jesus, what do you want me to know about your heart and your will for me?
Sometimes the interpretation we have made about God's will and God's heart came out of painful experiences where we weren't in touch with the truth of God's presence.
Letting God's perspective speak into our past experiences of pain will give us more insight and understanding into "God's will"—which has always been for our good and not our harm.
