49 Days of Hearing God: Day 19

Here are two troubleshooting tips on hearing God:

1. Silence truly can be golden

2. Wrestling is not a bad thing

What do you do if you’re trying to hear God but just get silence? Well, first of all, don’t panic! Sometimes silence is a response. Sometimes, God is speaking to you about stillness—that key state of rest in Him. Stillness is where we become aware.

Stillness is not a place to try harder to connect with God.

Ask: "Jesus, I sense silence from you. What are you saying to me through it?"

What do we mean by wrestling?

In today’s video, Cayce tells the story of a friend who was struggling to hear God. She began to think she was doing something wrong and needed to work harder and do more to connect with him. As she wrestled with the thoughts and feelings that were surfacing, she realized that God was actually talking to her about those very things: performance and striving. He showed her he wasn’t asking her to try harder with Him in any area of her life. He simply loved her desire for Him.

Peace and grace suddenly replaced the tension of working harder. Now, when she catches herself striving to please God, she remembers His words to her.

If thoughts and feelings come up that you don’t expect, pay attention. Ask God about it. Make it part of the conversation and He will take it somewhere good.
