49 Days of Hearing God: Day 18

Before we leave the subject of forgiveness, we need to examine a related area: judgement. This is another major sticking point for many of us when it comes to connecting with God and hearing His voice.

We are sometimes unaware of judgements we’ve made against others while we’ve held on to hurt and offense. There are spiritual principles at work—our judgements, even subtle ones, can keep us locked up internally and become a source of bitterness. Releasing them brings a new measure of freedom for us.

Think about the people you were led to forgive in the past few days.

Pray: "Jesus, remind me that I am yours."

Allow yourself to settle and sense God’s affirmation.

Ask: "Jesus, are there any judgements I have made toward the people who hurt me?"

Write down what He brings to mind. Then pray a simple prayer of release.

Pray: "Jesus, I release this person from my judgement and entrust them to you, the good and just JudgeI let them go, now, from where I’ve held them."

Ask: "What do you want me to know that will benefit me, Jesus?"

Judgements have a draining effect on our mind and emotions. Allow God to replace that with His life-giving perspective.
