49 Days of Hearing God: Day 17

Today is HUGE.

We have talked about forgiving others and forgiving ourselves, but today we talk about something you might have thought you weren’t even allowed to think: forgiving God.

Forgiving God is essential to connecting with him and hearing him. We don’t forgive because he did anything wrong. We forgive because we have been hurt, confused, and disappointed in life and, knowingly or unknowingly, we blamed God.

We judged him.

Judgement makes us feel disconnected and keeps us stuck.

There were times when King David cried out to God, accusing him of betrayal or indifference. How generous of God to give us the space to process so honestly. It’s almost amusing that we need God’s help to forgive God and get free from where our judgement traps us!

Ask: "God would it benefit me to forgive you? Show me what I’m holding against you.

A specific memory may come to mind or a certain situation. Process all of it honestly with God."

Pray: "Jesus, I have felt ____________ because of ____________. I ask you to speak to these things now. I’m listening.Tell me what is true. Reveal what I have misunderstood or misinterpreted about you. What’s the story I’ve told myself and what’s the story you want me to hear?"

When you are ready, simply release God from your judgement.

Pray: "God, I have blamed you, but today I choose to release you from my judgement. I surrender every mystery to you and choose to trust you with what I don’t understand. I welcome a divine reset with you, a reboot in our connection."
